Position: Financial Analyst III

Responsible for exhibiting Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's Mission, Vision and Values, regarding external customers, agencies, vendors, internal departments and co-workers. The Financial Analyst III supports business unit management and the corporate service groups through the evaluation of financial reports: income statements, cash flow statements and balance sheets; and determine how a company's finances will impact business operations. The Financial Analyst III must be able to present data analysis and interpretation in clear, compelling ways to facilitate decision making by finance and operations personnel. The Financial Analyst III must also possess the ability to work independently on more complex analytics and offer guidance to Financial Analysts as required.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Support the production of a monthly reporting package with variance analysis against prior year, budget, and forecast, including gross margin analyses, projections, and reports
  • Perform detailed analysis of cost allocations and report on changes and trends from budget and period-over-period results.

    • Create and analyzes moderately complex monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensure financial information has been recorded accurately and completely.
    • Perform moderately complex financial forecasting, financial modeling and trend analysis.
    • Assist with the preparation of the large projects table to capture budgeted/estimated/forecasted project costs and budgeted, forecasted, and accrual gross margin contributed by such projects.
    • Capture and report key performance indicators, highlight notable trends and analyze causes of unexpected variances.
    • Conduct thorough research of historical financial data to analyze trends to support executive leadership decisions.
    • Assist in reviewing accounting transactions for financial accuracy
    • Partner and liaise with operations and corporate functions to collect the individual pieces of data and information required by required filings and/or reports.
    • Complete special financial studies, e.g. cost of service studies, return on equity, capital structure, and depreciation.
    • Support development of team members; provide advice and expertise on a proactive basis to team members.
    • Support preparation of Rate Case filings, specific to revenues and expenses.

      • Supports the development of strategic plan, budgets, performance indicators, and target benchmarks.
      • Prepares feasibility studies for capital investments.
      • Assists management with merger and acquisition proforma and analysis.
      • Leads special projects as assigned by Manager, Business Unit Accounting and within coordination with various departments, including but not limited to Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting, Regulatory, and Business Planning Analysis.
      • Performs all other duties as assigned by Manager, Business Unit Accounting.
      • Responsible for communicating actual results and key variances to stakeholders..

        Requires...a total commitment to Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's Mission, Vision and Values and:

        • Four year degree in a related business field is required.
          * Five to ten years of business planning or financial analysis experience and three years of supervision experience is required.
          * Must be able to communicate in a clear, concise manner.
          * Knowledge in the Microsoft Office suite of software, namely: PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
          * Knowledge of the Epicor suite of software.
          * Knowledge of Utilities International Financial software.
          * Knowledge of Microsoft FRx suite of software.
          * Knowledge of Business Objects and related software.
          * Knowledge of company tariffs.
          * Must have a high level of initiative and be able to be self-directed.
          * Must be able to prioritize multiple requests simultaneously.
          * Must seek efficiencies in all areas to create overall process improvement.
          * Must be able to respond creatively to unique situations.
