Jewish values. The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville,
MD is seeking an outstanding middle school Hebrew language educator
to join our Middle School faculty as a long-term sub beginning on
Monday, May 4, 2026. Our Hebrew program is based on the proficiency
model guided by the ACTFL standards for second language
instruction. Successful candidates will have at least three years
of demonstrated success teaching Hebrew as a second language to
middle school students and will have familiarity and experience
with teaching the proficiency model. The ideal candidate is
passionate and charismatic and uses a student-centered approach to
teaching. They are experienced in effective methods of assessment
of second language skills, and are familiar with recognized
standards of language instruction, with ACTFL standards. Candidates
demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in the life of a
vibrant school community and have demonstrated success in working
collaboratively as part of a team. Responsibilities: Teach Hebrew
language and culture to students in grades 6-8, including
identifying appropriate authentic texts, lesson planning and unit
planning. The long-term sub will teach Hebrew 8.1, 8.2, and 6.2.
Participate in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss
student progress; Work collaboratively within the Upper School
Hebrew department and middle school faculty; Teach a weekly
advisory or other experiential education course; Other duties as
assigned. Qualifications The candidate must possess a BA in Hebrew
language, education, or comparable certification; MA preferred but
not required. Candidates should have at least three years of
successful teaching experience in collaborative working
environments, ideally in a middle and/or high school setting.
Experience in differentiated instruction, project-based learning,
Collaborative Problem Solving, student-centered instruction and
working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
