Lead Data Solutions Engineer
Onsite in West Chester, PA and/or Remote
CTH
Must work EST zone.
Must be senior in stature, experience, personality, politically
savvy etc.
Will mentor/manage team members, be responsible for code review and
some architecture input.
" What is GSTi's client building?
GSTi's client is building out a new generation of green field
solutions for its Finance and Risk areas to support actuaries and
quants with portfolio analytics, market simulations, pre- and
post-trade analytics, trading, risk metrics and reporting.
As part of this program, GSTi's client is standing up small,
business-aligned Agile teams to develop these new products. The
program continues to expand with an aggressive company acquisition
strategy and this will lead to growth opportunities within these
teams and with new teams as they form.
Solution architecture is Cloud Native and Serverless, using cutting
edge AWS Services, which currently include: Lambda, API Gateway,
Cloud Formation Template, SNS, SQS, Event Bridge, Glue, Athena,
DynamoDB, TimeStreamDB, Redshift, Aurora, S3, CloudWatch, Cloud
Trail , etc., to name the few.
We are constantly evaluating and identifying new services and
features as and when they become available.
We also provide training courses via AcloudGuru and Pluralsite
This is not just a traditional software development position, it's
a great opportunity for learning and growing cloud engineering
skills, while contributing to and providing a significant positive
impact on the business.
Key factors are;
- Senior level data engineering experience
- Core general programming skills
- API experience, not building API's but will be using them to
plug into + streams.
- AWS/Serverless experience
- Agile mindset
- Database experience such as SQL, NoSQL, or Cloud
- This is more than just a Python App Dev role---
- Will be building modern cloud-based reporting and analytics
platform for the Business Application Services Group.
Technical:
- Bachelor's degree in IT or related field preferred.
- 7+ years professional experience designing, building,
delivering, and supporting data-intensive distributed systems
and/or data management systems.
- 5+ years professional experience using APIs and event streams
and/or enterprise-class data management systems with streaming data
feeds as data sources.
- 5+ years professional experience developing solutions with any
three (or more) of the following cloud-native AWS mechanisms (or
non-AWS equivalents): S3, Lambda, EFS, SNS, SQS, EventBridge,
Kinesis, Aurora, DynamoDB, Glue, Athena, Redshift/Spectrum
- Proficiency in common enterprise data engineering patterns
(Relational vs Dimensional, Data Warehousing, Schema-on-Read vs
Schema-on-Write, Data Lake, etc.)
- Familiarity with BI & Data Visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI)
preferred.
- Practical experience with large scale distributed data store;
AWS RedShift strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Python and SQL
- Proficiency with Version Control System is required; experience
with Git preferred.
- Proficiency with ETL and ELT concepts and related tooling is
required.
- Practical experience with CI/CD tooling is strongly preferred
(e.g., Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, DB Maestro, )
- Practical experience with automated BDD test tooling is
strongly preferred (e.g., SpecFlow, Cucumber, )
- Experience with Agile (Kanban, Lean, or XP) practices is a
plus.
Non-technical:
- Demonstrates superior communication skills: writes and speaks
clearly and concisely; presents ideas understandably and
persuasively; uses appropriate channels for audience and subject
matter; able to consume and share information at multiple levels,
from detailed technical directions to high level business
concepts.
- Exhibits efficient and effective documentation skills:
recognizes and achieves "just enough documentation, leveraging
content-suitable mediums and mechanisms such as wikis, pictures,
diagrams, schema, models,
- Exercises strong analytical capabilities with ability to ask
probing questions to gather complete information.
- Steps back from detail to see the big picture, distinguish the
vital from the trivial, ignore nonessentials, and remove obstacles
so that essential things have clear, smooth passage.
- Remains calm and composed in adversity, lending stability and
order to stressful situations.
- Deals easily with multiple concurrent issues and tasks under
pressure.
- Anticipates potential obstacles and develops contingency plans
to overcome them.
- Possesses an Agile mindset and a drive to deliver business
value via relentless incrementalism.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or other highly
regulated industry is highly desirable.
