The Global Employee Relations (ER) Operations Vice President at BlackRock will have responsibility for a small global team that manage all operational processes and responsibilities across a wide range of Employee Relations activities including, but not limited to, involuntary employee terminations, ER case management, and group redundancy actions. Due to the high-risk nature of this work, an elevated sense of urgency, confidentiality, discretion, expediency and accuracy are critical to the role. The ER Ops Vice President will also have the opportunity to partner with various HR functions to bring scalable processes as the ER function at BlackRock expands. The role is aligned within the HR Operations function and contributes to the alignment of regional ER Operations processes and resources in the development of a global ER Ops function.

Key Responsibilities:


  • To define and execute on strategic direction of the Global ER Ops Team
  • Manage key stakeholders such as ER leadership team and wider HR Operations leaders
  • Provide people management support for the team including career development, coaching, objective setting and feedback
  • Ensure strong controls are implemented on high risk processes and take pro-active steps to ensure they are followed by the team; including audit of their tasks and regular review of standard operating procedures
  • Provide oversight for the most complex or sensitive involuntary exits
  • Ensure any operating events are recorded and that corrective actions are taken and preventive measures implemented as appropriate
  • Ownership of training and onboarding as it relates to ER systems
  • Drive the development of metrics for both ER Advisors and ER Ops team

    Support the team as required with the following responsibilities:

    • Provide day to day operational support to the Employee Relations Team across a broad range of employee relations areas, including involuntary terminations, ER case management, group redundancies, etc.
    • Support Employee Relations Advisors through the creation and maintenance of ER-relevant employee documentation (i.e. severance cost analysis, separation agreements, reporting)
    • Initiate and update redundancy details in severance database
    • Prepare accurate involuntary termination documentation; produce and collate associated exit materials (based on Federal, State and Firm policy requirements), providing to appropriate partners within the process (ie Employee Relations Advisors, HR Business Partners) in a timely manner
    • Liaise and support the Employee Relations and Legal teams in compiling documentation for employment claims
    • Research and provide supporting materials to ER Advisors and/or Legal during investigations

      Qualifications and Skills:

      • Demonstrated experience of managing an operational team; experience of managing a remote team desirable
      • Demonstrated experience in owning the details and driving execution against a set plan in an accurate, efficient and timely manner, raising issues, questions and status across stakeholders proactively
      • Strong working experience with MS Office applications required
      • Experience in operational processes in support of key HR deliverables
      • Acumen in accuracy and attention to detail
      • Adaptable, logical, and capable of flexing solutions to changing demands: anticipating the local, regional, global impact
      • Experience working in at least one of the following regions, APAC, AMERS + EMEA
      • Comfortable working in a highly matrixed environment strongly preferred
      • Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency an accuracy, minimizing risk
      • Proven ability to build and sustain high performing partnerships, both locally and globally

        Education requirement:

        • BA/BS degree; certifications and course work in specific areas of HR expertise preferred
