Director of Athletics

Company: St. Andrew's School
Location: Middletown
Posted on: January 16, 2022

Job Description:

St. Andrew's School seeks a collaborative and dynamic director of athletics to establish the vision and goals (annual and long-term) for the athletics program at St. Andrew's, which supports the growth of students through practice and performance, success, and failure. At St. Andrew's, athletics is an essential aspect of the education of all students, and the director of athletics will be part of the school's leadership team reporting directly to the head of school. Our multisport student-athletes are served by a program designed for the development of teamwork, fitness, character, grit, and responsibility. St. Andrew's is a private, Episcopal, co-educational boarding school located in Middletown, Delaware, centrally located between Philadelphia and Washington, DC, in the mid-Atlantic region. Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year is 315 students in grades nine to twelve. Since the founding of the school in 1929, St. Andrew's has been a school affordable to all students who are qualified for admission, regardless of their financial means. One hundred percent of each family's financial need is met if a student is admitted to St. Andrew's. Forty-three percent of the student body receives grants. $6.3M in financial aid was granted this year.

St. Andrew's School is 100 percent boarding, and its residential program is an essential component of a St. Andrew's education. The athletics programs are a crucial part of the school's aspiration to prepare students for lives of leadership and service in their communities and to the world. Teaching faculty members serve as coaches for most sports teams. The school fields 22 teams for boys and girls. Facilities include six miles of cross-country trails (on our 2200-acre campus), five soccer fields, four lacrosse fields, two field hockey fields, two baseball diamonds, practice and game football fields, 11 tennis courts, the Kip duPont Boat house with three boat bays and an iconic crew racecourse on Noxontown Pond. In the LEED-certified Sipprelle Field House, opened in 2011, the school has three basketball/volleyball courts, an indoor track, performance studio, weight room, cardio fitness room, sports medicine and rehabilitation center, and locker rooms for all teams plus faculty. In the adjoining William H. Cameron Gymnasium, there are nine international squash courts, a basketball court, an ergometer training room, and a 2,800 square-foot wrestling room.
