growth.A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an
advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who practices both
autonomously and in collaboration with a variety of health
providers on the inter-professional team to deliver high-quality,
holistic, evidence-based anesthesia and pain care services. The
CRNA cares for patients at all acuity levels across the lifespan in
a variety of settings for procedures including, but not limited to,
surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and pain
management.1.Responsible for supplying documentation of continued
registration as a CRNA2.Perform and document pre-anesthesia
assessment and evaluation of the patient per departmental
practice3.Review, request, and order (as permitted by state law),
laboratory/diagnostic studies per departmental practice4.Obtain
informed consent for anesthesia and related services5.Select,
obtain, order, and administer preanesthetic medication or treatment
per departmental practice6.Develop and implement an anesthesia care
plan per departmental practice7.Select, obtain, prepare, and use
equipment, invasive and non-invasive monitors, supplies, and drugs
for the administration of sedation, anesthesia, and pain management
services; perform safety checks as needed8.Select, order, obtain,
and administer analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs,
accessory drugs, fluids, or blood products necessary to provide
anesthesia services9.Perform all aspects of airway management,
including fiberoptic intubation10.Facilitate emergence and recovery
from anesthesia by evaluating patient response, and selecting,
ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilator
support to maintain patient stability during transfer11.Initiate
and administer post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of
the cardiovascular system12.Initiate and administer respiratory
support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the
post-anesthesia period13.Evaluate the patient's response to
anesthesia and surgery; take appropriate corrective action during
the post-anesthesia period14.Provide post-anesthesia follow-up
evaluation and care15.Implement acute and chronic pain management
modalities16.Manage emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing,
and determining disposition of patients, including providing airway
management, administration of emergency drugs and fluids, and using
basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques17.Reviews
patients' medical history to determines appropriate type of
anesthetic to be used18.Prepares and evaluates the safety of
anesthetic equipment, supplies and drugs19.Conducts the induction
and maintenance of anesthesia20.Administer general (intravenous /
inhalation) and regional anesthesia21.Insert invasive monitoring
lines required for an anesthetic and interpret the data.22.Monitors
the life support functions of patient during period of anesthesia,
or surgery as needed. Assesses, interprets and treats physiologic
responses to anesthesia that include oxygenation, circulation and
ventilation. Keeps the surgical team informed of patient's
condition23.Records pertinent information concerning anesthetic
course on patient's clinical chart24.Provides observation and care
in immediate post-operative period until a report of pertinent
information has been given to and responsibility for patient
accepted by the RN or MD covering the appropriate recovery
area25.Place and manage regional anesthetic techniques, as
delineated by his or her clinical privileges or granted special
privileges26.Non-Clinical functions may include but not be limited

licensure requirements for CRNA practice.QualificationsExperience
Minimum Required--- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are
licensed, registered, advanced practice nurses who have completed
an advanced degree in anesthesia. Nurse anesthetists must become
certified by successfully completing a national qualifying
examination in the specialty of anesthesiaExperience
Preferred/Desired--- Three years of experience working as a CRNA in
an acute hospital based Surgical Services DepartmentEducation
Minimum Required--- Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational
program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse
Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessorEducation
Preferred/Desired--- Master's degreeTraining Minimum Required---
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry,
chemistry, physics and pharmacology as related to anesthesia. The
major clinical component providing experience with a variety of
anesthesia techniques and procedures for all types of surgery and
obstetricsSpecial Skills Minimum Required--- Cultural competence
and language skills for patient population is desired--- Ability to
perform clinically as a nurse anesthetist in the facility setting
on a regular basis--- Ability to operate, use, and interpret data
from a wide variety of equipment to perform anesthesia care as well
as necessary perioperative or operating room care to support the
safety and wellbeing of the patient while they are under the direct
care of the CRNA--- Effective verbal and written communication
skills are required to effectively collaborate with various
clinical staff and other disciplines--- Ability to demonstrate
knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the
patient population served--- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of
the principles of growth and development over the life span and
ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements
relative to his or her population-specific and age specific
needs--- Knowledge of infection prevention and control
techniques--- Ability to maintain confidential records--- Ability
to implement and adhere to facility policies and proceduresSpecial
Skills Preferred/Desired--- Ability to practice autonomously and in
collaboration with a variety of health providers on an
inter-professional team--- Ability to care for all acuity patients
across the lifespan in a variety of settingsLicensure and/or
Certifications Required--- Holds current active state licensure as
a registered nurse in the state of New Hampshire and complies with
any applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements
concerning CRNAs--- Is currently certified or recertified by the
