Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a strong LabVIEW professional to join our team as a Software Engineer level 3 or 4 for our Elkton, Maryland location.The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for:
  • Design, development, deployment, and support of LabVIEW programs and test instrumentation throughout all project life cycle phases
  • Translation of system requirements, specifications and goal-oriented objectives into system designs
  • Interfacing with end users and customers to refine requirements and iterate designs; generation of test plans and documentation to verify compliance to system level requirements
  • Production of software documentation to support software release packages
  • Time management and flexibility to support multiple programs
  • Presentation of assigned work at program technical reviews, proposals, or other technical meetings.This position can be filled at either the Principal Software Engineer (Level 3) or Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Level 4), depending on years of experience and qualifications.Basic Qualifications Principal Software Engineer (Level 3):
    • Requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited college with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years professional experience with a related Master's degree or a PhD in Engineering.
    • Proven experience with National Instruments LabVIEW data acquisition systems and programming.
    • Experience developing real time control systems for measurement and test in the LabVIEW RT environment.
    • Defines development test plans and methods to ensure a robust design is achieved and validates the design against customer, internal and regulatory / government requirements.
    • Has strong analytical skills and the ability organize/prioritize job assignments and tasks.
    • Is able to communicate clearly and effectively to cross-functional team members. Has strong writing skills and is proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
    • Is able to document design and analysis reports as well as test reports.
    • Is self-motivated and able to work without close supervision to achieve tasks on time and budget.
    • Position may require occasional travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.Basic Qualifications Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Level 4):
      • Requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited college with a minimum of 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years professional experience with a related Master's degree or PhD in Engineering & 4 years.
      • Proven experience with National Instruments LabVIEW data acquisition systems and programming.
      • Extensive experience developing real time control systems for measurement and test in the LabVIEW RT environment.
      • Develops detailed specifications from high level design goals and performs analysis of the hardware, system environment and design goals to enable selection and implementation of the desired system topology.
      • Proficient at producing standard software engineering documentation with a firm understand of standard industry software engineering practices (e.g. MIL-STD-498 and NPR-7150.2)
      • Has strong analytical skills and the ability organize/prioritize job assignments and tasks.
      • Is self-motivated and able to work without close supervision to achieve tasks on time and budget.
      • Is able to communicate clearly and effectively to cross-functional team members. Has strong writing skills and is proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
      • Is able to document design and analysis reports as well as test reports.
      • Position may require occasional travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.
      • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.Preferred Skills:
        • Applies research to the planning, design, development and testing of LabVIEW algorithms, test environments and systems for use in space and military applications. Is able to develop design solutions to meet difficult performance requirements.
        • Possesses strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a development team to understand system level interdependencies and design constraints.
        • Experience with the use of FPGAs and the development of code with LabVIEW FPGA.
        • Experience working in a cross functional environment (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, test engineering, production engineering, etc.) to translate customer requirements and functional block diagrams into realized control models. Review and update control system requirements to meet system level performance objectives. Conduct trade studies and identify and present alternate design options.This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor."

          Salary Range: 96900 - 145300Salary Range 2: 120000 - 180000

          Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
