Job Description:
The Vendor Procurement Manager is responsible for overseeing the
selection, onboarding, performance, and ongoing compliance of
third-party vendors supporting Safeway Logistics operations. This
role plays a critical part in mitigating operational, financial,
legal, and regulatory risk while ensuring vendor partnerships align
with company standards, service expectations, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities Vendor Procurement & Management • Lead the
sourcing, evaluation, and selection of transportation, warehousing,
and logistics-related vendors • Negotiate vendor contracts, pricing
structures, service level agreements (SLAs), and renewal terms •
Maintain a centralized, up-to-date vendor database including
contracts, certifications, and compliance records • Monitor vendor
performance against KPIs and SLAs, addressing deficiencies and
implementing corrective actions Compliance Oversight • Ensure all
vendors comply with federal, state, and local regulations (DOT,
FMCSA, OSHA, insurance requirements, etc.) • Oversee vendor
onboarding processes including background checks, insurance
verification, licensing, and safety documentation • Partner with
Legal and Compliance teams to ensure contracts and practices align
with regulatory requirements • Recommend termination or remediation
strategies for high-risk vendors Internal Collaboration & Reporting
• Provide leadership with regular reporting on vendor compliance
status, risk exposure, and performance trends • Support audits,
inspections, and regulatory inquiries related to third-party
vendors Required Qualifications •5 years of experience in vendor
procurement, supply chain management, or logistics operations
•Strong knowledge of transportation and logistics compliance
requirements •Proven experience managing contracts, vendor audits,
and risk mitigation strategies • Excellent negotiation, analytical,
and problem-solving skills •2 years of experience contracting
pricing and bis management experience Preferred Qualifications
•Experience within 3PL, warehousing, or transportation-heavy
environments •Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, and safety compliance
programs •Strong Collaboration and cross functional communication
Develop and execute a carrier procurement strategy to ensure
sufficient capacity for all customer freight, including peakseason
and surgevolume requirements. Build and maintain a diverse,
reliable carrier network across modes (FTL, LTL, finalmile) to
support ECW and Safeway Logistics operations. Conduct market
analysis on lane rates, capacity trends, and carrier performance to
optimize cost and service. Identify and onboard new
carriers/brokers to support expanding customer needs, ensuring
alignment with service expectations and compliance standards.
Establish carrier scorecards to evaluate cost, service reliability,
on-time performance, safety, and claims ratios. Partner with
Operations and Customer Service to forecast freight demand and
align carrier capacity accordingly. Lead annual and quarterly bid
events, including RFP/RFQ processes for all major lanes and
customer programs. Develop level pricing strategies to support
competitive customer quotes and margin protection. Maintain a
centralized rate repository for all contracted carriers, ensuring
accuracy and accessibility for internal teams. Evaluate and
negotiate fuel programs, accessorial schedules, detention policies,
and volume commitments. Implement a carrier risk management model
to identify highrisk carriers and enforce corrective actions or
removal. Partner with Safety and Legal teams to manage claims,
incident investigations, and carrier remediation plans. Work
closely with Customer Solutions and Operations to match carriers to
customer requirements, including special handling, temperature
control, highvalue freight, and timecritical shipments. Support
Sales with carrierbased insights during customer onboarding,
pricing development, and solution design. Lead weekly
crossdepartmental reviews on capacity planning, carrier
performance, and costtoserve analysis. Develop KPIs for carrier
performance, including ontime pickup/delivery, tender acceptance,
claims frequency, and cost efficiency. Conduct quarterly business
reviews (QBRs) with strategic carriers to drive continuous
improvement. Implement technology tools (TMS, carrier portals,
analytics dashboards) to enhance visibility and decisionmaking.
Salary Upto: 125k
