Approved April 4, 2022 JOB DESCRIPTION The Automation Specialist is
responsible for evaluating and implementing automation throughout
the production facility. Working with all relevant stakeholders,
the Automation Specialist learns the current process in place and
identifies how automation will be implemented to the benefit of the
organization and any barriers that must be overcome. The specialist
will work to implement automation and then support this automation
through its life cycle. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs, programs, simulates, tests, and implements automated
machinery or processes
- Reviews and justifies cost of automation, implements and
manages new systems and equipment
- Helps to streamline operations for efficiency, cost saving,
safety and reliability
- Develops detailed documentation, including design
specifications and troubleshoots control systems
- Implements specialized techniques and approaches to handle
automation projects
- Drives automation back to the team and identifies bill of
materials savings and labor allocation
- Supports the agenda of the plant manager towards the production
of goods
- Collaborates with the Plant Manager, Facilities Engineer, and
Maintenance Department on subjects of staffing, supplies,
inventory, repair and maintenance.
- Analyzes, troubleshoots, services, and fixes computerized and
robotic devices
- Works closely with equipment manufacturers to ensure minimum
downtime of all automated systems and machinery
- Collaborates with developers, fellow engineers, project
managers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand the
requirements and scope of the robotics project.
- Coordinates, organizes, and schedules an engineering and
programming team to create, build, and integrate robotic
(automation) systems. Has a responsibility back to the quality of
the product we are manufacturing.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven
documentation skills.
- Understand mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical components as
it relates to equipment and machinery.
- Experience with CAD preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet
deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to
effectively train others.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when
appropriate.
- Understanding of business and management principles.
- Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the
company.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
- At least five years of experience in related field required.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a
computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine
needs.
