Job Description:
Job Description Position Overview: This position requires an
increasing awareness and knowledge of children's growth and
development. An assistant teacher must plan, develop, and implement
daily curriculum activities within specific guidelines and
parameters of the program. They must track students' progress using
Teaching Strategies GOLD and maintain documentation in the
children's online portfolio. They must oversee any interns under
their specified supervision. General Duties and Responsibilities: l
. Follow all policies and procedures of LTA, DELACARE Rules and
Regulations and Delaware STARS. 2. Know and support the objectives
of the program as a whole including classroom and individual
student goals. 3. BE ACTIVE AT ALL TIMES. Interact with the
children during all activities. Smile, laugh, and talk with them
demonstrating an interest in them and their activities. 4. Respect
your co-workers and BE ON TIME. Be in your assigned classroom and
prepared to begin work at your scheduled time. 5. All time off
requests must be submitted through HR online for approval or denial
by HR Administration. 6. All call outs must be received at least
one hour prior to your scheduled time to work. You must speak to an
administrator, no voicemails or text messages. 7. Display a happy,
pleasant, and professional attitude towards parents, children and
fellow staff members. Greet each parent and child at the beginning
and the end of the day. Introduce yourself to any parents, staff,
or visitors you do not know. 8. When speaking with children use a
positive approach i.e. we walk inside, feet on the floor, inside
voices, etc. Avoid saying no as much as possible. 9. Dress
respectful and professional as outlined in the LTA dress code.
Failure to follow the LTA dress code is grounds for termination.
10. Take initiative in providing and maintaining an environment in
which children can have a safe, clean, and successful experience at
school. I l . Monitor all equipment both indoors and out to ensure
it is safe for children's play. Children's activities must be
supervised at all times to prevent injuries. 12. Immediately inform
administration of any concerns with a child, family, or other staff
member. 13. Release children only to authorized persons. If in
doubt please check with Administration prior to release of child.
14. Wash hands immediately upon entering any classroom, after
toileting and before and after eating. 15. Attend and participate
in all monthly staff meetings. 16. Complete all required continuing
education courses per licensing year. For Full Time employees, 18
credit hours required and must cover a minimum of three CORE areas
unless documented in the annual professional development plan by
the administrator OR if staff member is applying credits for
successfully completing a regionally accredited college or
university course, OR when the training is six or more clock hours
in length. For Part Time employees, 9 credit hours must be
completed. To receive credit, transcripts for college courses must
be submitted to administration and transcripts through DIEEC
website printed for file. 17. Must be able to routinely lift
children up to 40 pounds, bend, squat, stand, and sit for extended
periods of time. If accommodations are needed to fulfill this
requirement please notify administration immediately. 18. Complete
any additional requests that are reasonable and ethical requested
by Administration. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 1.
Maintain a collaborative working relationship with each family and
child 2. Assist teacher in developing, planning, and implementing
the daily curriculum. Be sure all materials are prepared on Friday
for the upcoming week and are available for any substitute who may
cover the classroom at any time. 3. Maintain and neat, clean, and
organized classroom whereby anyone could find what they need when
walking into the classroom. 4. Keep ongoing portfolios of each
student through Teaching Strategies GOLD. Documentation of each
students should be input on a weekly basis. All records are to be
kept confidential. 5. Prepare required documents as needed:
incident reports, daily reports, and sick reports. 6. Work
cooperatively with any specialist contracted to work with specific
children in your classroom. Follow all academic and/or behavioral
plans. 7. Be Creative Create new ideas and strategies in the
classroom to make it educational and enjoyable. 8. Display
children's work throughout the room in an orderly and neat manner.
Displays are to be at the children's eye level, frames with a
border and given a title. Keep all displays current and fresh
Nothing on display should be faded. 9. Create hall bulletin board
displays following the bulletin board guidelines. 10. Assist
teacher in preparing for parent/tcacher conferences (November and
June). I l . Complete personal evaluations. 12. Review and practice
all emergency drills as outlines in the Emergency Management Plan
13. Complete all forms for administration in the requested time
frame. 14. Utilize a variety of means of communication to provide
information to parents of day to day happenings in your classroom.
15. Take attendance at scheduled times throughout the day. 16.
Assist in facilitating and implementing classroom patties as
outlined by management. Qualifications: Minimum age of eighteen
(18) years High school diploma or its equivalent Minimum completion
of 60 clock hours of Delaware First "Early Care and Education I" or
six (6) college credits in early childhood education and child
development Minimum of six (6) months experience in a group setting
Meet all other requirements listed in hiring criteria Complete all
STARS requirements including: Yearly Core-Self Evaluations, Yearly
Professional Development Plan, all STARS required trainings.
