Job Description Job Description LOCATIONS AVAILABLE: Montgomery,
Prince George's, and Howard counties. JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible
in providing services as patient care aide (PCA) in accordance to
the standards and qualification set by the MD Department of Health
(MDH). QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Completion of at least the ninth grade.
Preferably a high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Must have
completed a minimum of 40 hours of training which includes an
introduction to personal care services. 3. Must be free from health
problems that may be injurious to patient, self and co-workers and
must present appropriate evidence to substantiate this. 4. Must
comprehend the basics of personal care, housekeeping and meal
preparation. 5. Must understand and respect client’s ethics and
confidentiality of care. 6. Must be able to understand, read and
write English. 7. Must be able to complete required in-services by
MDH. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned. 1. Follows the plan of care to help
the patient to maintain good personal hygiene and maintain a
healthful, safe environment, is to perform ONLY those functions
specified for each individual patient. 2. Receives written
instructions from the supervisor as mandated by MDH. 3. Has
knowledge of Agency policies and procedures 4. Is trained in first
aid and able to show proof of current CPR license. 5. Is oriented
and trained in all aspects of care to be provided to clients. This
includes ability to handle the demands of clients who have altered
intellectual, emotional and psychological capabilities, and may do
or say things that are only expected from normal persons. 6. If
able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training for
personal care 7. Personal Care Aides may assist clients with the
following activities: Self-administration of medications by
reminding the client to take medications and opening containers for
the client. Housekeeping Personal grooming and dressing Eating and
meal preparation Oral hygiene and denture care Toileting and toilet
hygiene Arranging for medical and dental care including
transportation to and from the appointment Taking and recording
oral temperatures Administering emergency first aid Providing or
arranging for social interaction Providing transportation 9.
Documents observations and services in the individual client
record. 10. Reports any change in the patient's mental or physical
condition or in the home situation to his/her immediate supervisor,
the staff nurse, or to the Home Care Aide supervisor. Mental and
Physical Requirements: Free of communicable disease, including
tuberculosis. Manual dexterity necessary to open food or medicine
containers, prepare food, change bedding, push buttons on
appliances, prepare and cook meals, perform light housekeeping, and
use a smartphone. Be able to sit, stand, move around a home, bend,
climb stairs and lift up to 15lbs. (Note: Some client assignments
may require a caregiver to support a client's weight which may
range from 120lbs to up to about 300lbs). Must be able to focus,
and apply and retain instructions and other important information.
Must be able to speak clearly to client and the client’s
family/household members. Must be able to remain awake continuously
for up to sixteen hours per day. Must be able to travel in the
community with the client. Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor
during incidents of client agitation, anger or resistance to care.
Must be able to enter information into an application on a
smartphone. Full- and part-time shifts available. Hours are
flexible and can include days, evenings, overnights or weekends,
depending upon the candidate's availability.
